I first learned to use a camera during a 2011 high school photo class and quickly began recruiting friends for stylized portraits inspired by Marie-Antoinette, The Phantom of the Opera, Old Hollywood, and more. It was completely extra, but so am I.
My affection for photography grew, and I began shooting fashion spreads in my early 20s while paying bills with event bookings…and often seeking out a party-goer or two for a few fun, dramatic shots in the process. I loved it, and learned it's the photos that the subject and I create together that truly thrill me.
I graduated from Northwestern University with degrees in journalism & history and later worked for a luxury event design house, where I noticed a connection between fine art, weddings, and my storytelling background. Eager to explore that, I launched Alaura Creative in 2019!
I adore Chicago’s sites and neighborhoods, which greatly influence my work, and admit you may hear a history fact during any given photo session. While I often use Chicago as a backdrop, I also book sessions in my private home studio: A 1926 Chicago Bungalow/former speakeasy where I live with my husband, Shiba Inu, 2 cats, and 6 backyard chickens. It’s my own urban homestead and I find it endlessly inspiring! When I’m not taking pictures, you’ll likely find me gardening, drinking coffee, or hunting for antiques. And yes, if you book a studio session, you may leave with some fresh eggs or garden veggies, too. ;)
